Probiotic supplements for IBS treatment

Soy yogurt is a rich source of probiotics. It contains both types of bacteria which assist in the digestion process which are Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. A serving or two of soy yogurt a day is enough to give significant amounts of bacteria that is required for IBS treatment. Eating soy yogurt continuously for a week is known to produce dramatic changes in the IBS symptoms. Starting with two a day may only increase the symptoms since the body copes with the upturn of probiotics in the body.

Probiotics are naturally present in fermented foods with active live cultures. They improve intestinal microbial balance, inhibiting pathogens and toxin producing bacteria. They are available in the form of pills or in soy yogurt. People suffering from IBS should avoid dairy yogurt as it will only contribute to the condition.

The friendly bacteria are particularly effective for IBS if you have been taking antibiotics. They can also be helpful when taken for daily maintenance. Many research studies have shown that specific strains of probiotics can dramatically improve Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms. Probiotic supplements should normally be taken with food.

When we take probiotic supplements, we are actually adding bacteria back to our system. However, not all bacteria are safe. Most commercial preparations include only healthy probiotics that will not harm us. There are those who claim that there are many other benefits to taking probiotic supplements but these additional benefits have not been clinically tested or proven. Common claims that have not been proven to be true are that probiotics slow aging, are anti-oxidants or anti-carcinogenic, cure headaches, restore energy, and may regulate mood for those with bipolar or depression.

These supplements have been found to be extremely effective in safely eliminating all symptoms related with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. They act in a multifaceted way for IBS treatment. They improve the microbial count of beneficial bacteria in the intestine, improve nutrient absorption in the gut, stimulate gut immunity and reduce inflammation, and alter motility in gut.

It is important to keep in mind that probiotic supplements work more effectively when they are consumed on a regular basis. They should not be given to people who have compromised immune systems or the risk of developing infections will go up. To be on the safe side, it is best to consult a physician before taking probiotics.
